In addition, Copper Nickel Sheets have a high inherent biofouling resistance to attachment by macrofoulers living in the seawater. As nickel and copper alloy by means of each other effortlessly and have unpretentious structures, Copper Nickel Plates are readily fabricated and ductile, where hardness and strengthfor each separate alloy is amplified by cold working and not toughened by heat treatment. Cu-Ni Sheets are weldable by the majority of techniques, although autogenously (welding without weld consumables) or oxyacetylene methods are not recommended. Cu-Ni Plates have also been used as splash zone cladding on offshore structures and protective cladding on boat hulls, as well as for solid hulls themselves.

Cupronickel Sheets are weld consumables and are normally preferred for other alloys, where no after-welding heat treatment is required.To use this property to its full potential, Cupronickel Plates needs to be free of the effects of, or insulated from, any form of cathodic protection. However, Copper Nickel Coils can show high corrosion rates in polluted or stagnant seawater when sulfides or ammonia are present.It is important to avoid exposure to such conditions in Cu-Ni Coils, particularly during commissioning and refit while the surface films are maturing. Meanwhile, ferrous sulfate dosing to sea water systems can provide improved resistance in Cupronickel Coils.
