A very strong deoxidant in Cu-Ni Alloy Fasteners is now available and this is capable of being welded autogenously by TIG, plasma-TIG and the power beam processes without significant porosity problems. Cupronickel Alloy Fasteners makes allowance for the fact that local speeds may be higher at changes of direction, points of divergence, etc. If water velocity is excessive, Copper Nickel Nuts can cause vortices leading to impingement attack which can cause premature failure. The other main alloying elements in Cu-Ni Bolts are manganese, around 1%, that is used as a deoxidant and desulphuriser, and up to 2% iron which is added to improve erosion resistance.
